Performers guide a group of children through a fantastical world in which they are encouraged through stories and games to use and celebrate their voices. Microphones around the space pick up their vocal contributions (bits of song, shouting names or nonsense words) which are instantly replayed and sonically played with, or used to form layers of a beautiful final piece of music in which the children hear themselves. My homemade live-sampling software (developed with Sarah Owen of Solarference) was just what this project needed!

Characters spend time listening to a small battery-powered radio: I designed a method for broadcasting sounds to the actual onstage prop radio, sync’ed to sound layers from theatre’s main PA. I made these ‘Radio Biafra’ sequences from a mixture of found broadcasts, archive sounds and bespoke recordings made with the company.
